Flocked Flooring: A Buyer’s Guide

June 2026 · 8 min read · by BON Flocked Flooring

Flocked flooring specified in a commercial interior

Flocked flooring is one of the few commercial floor types most buyers meet through a project rather than a catalogue: it turns up in an airport, a hospital corridor or a hotel lobby, and the question afterwards is always the same — what is it, and how do I buy it properly? This guide answers both. What the construction actually is, the test data worth demanding, what customisation makes possible, and how to source it factory-direct without getting the specification wrong.

What flocked flooring actually is

Take millions of short nylon 6.6 fibres, stand them upright in a high-voltage electrostatic field, and bond them to a dimensionally stable, impervious backing. That is flocked flooring. Ours carries around 80 million fibres per square metre — roughly ten times the density of a bonded carpet.

The construction is the whole point. The dense upright pile behaves like a textile floor: warm, quiet, slip-resistant underfoot. The sealed backing behaves like a resilient floor: nothing soaks in, so spills sit on the surface and the floor can be wet-mopped, extraction-cleaned or steam-cleaned on a daily regime. Most floors give you one of those two things. This construction gives you both, which is why it survives in buildings that would destroy an ordinary carpet.

The seven things to check before you specify

Construction

Genuine electrostatic flock: nylon 6.6 fibres stood upright and bonded to an impervious backing — not a printed or bonded imitation. Ask for fibre content and density (ours is around 80 million fibres/m²).

Fire classification

The classification your market and building type require — EN 13501-1 in Europe and much of Asia and the Gulf, ASTM E648 in North America. Ours is tested Bfl-s1 to EN 13501-1 (SGS).

Slip resistance

A measured figure, not an adjective. Ours is tested to EN 13893 with a dynamic coefficient of friction of 0.45 — above the 0.30 low-slip threshold.

Acoustics

For guest rooms, wards and open-plan offices, ask for impact sound reduction. Ours measures ΔLw 21 dB (ISO 10140-1 / 717-2).

Indoor air

For enclosed, all-day-occupied spaces, ask for emissions data. Formaldehyde was not detected in SGS testing to GB 18587.

Customisation

In-house digital print, so any design can be produced without tooling cost — and confirm whether OEM / private-label supply is available if you want to own the line.

MOQ, lead time & terms

A realistic minimum (ours is from 1,000 m²), honest lead times for stock versus custom print, and clear FOB / CIF / DDP quoting for your market.

Where it earns its place

Healthcare & aged care

Impervious backing for infection control, measured slip resistance for fall prevention, and a warm, quiet surface that does not feel institutional.

Workplace & office

Acoustic calm in open plan, and a short dense pile that takes chair-castor traffic without matting or tracking.

Hotels & hospitality

Quiet guest rooms, corridors that survive rolling luggage, and lobbies that can carry a signature printed design.

Aviation & transport

Round-the-clock footfall, rolling luggage and constant cleaning, with bespoke wayfinding printed into the floor.

Retail & leisure

The floor as brand real estate — an identical custom design rolled out across every store or venue.

Custom print: the part buyers underestimate

Because the surface is digitally printed, the design is not a constraint. Any pattern, colourway, logo, wayfinding scheme or project-specific artwork can be produced with no tooling cost — and reproduced identically batch after batch. For a retail chain, a hotel group or a corporate campus, that turns the floor from a purchase into part of the brand environment. We have produced a single coordinated design at 100,000 m² for a national retail rollout. See where it is installed.

How pricing really works

There is no honest single price per square metre for this product, and any supplier who publishes one is quoting you a different floor than the one you will receive. Cost moves with quantity, format (tile or roll), whether the design is a stock range or custom print, the grades you need, and your delivery terms. So we quote your order: send the area in m², the format and the design or artwork, and we return an exact FOB, CIF or DDP price. MOQ is from 1,000 m². Full detail in our supplier sourcing guide.

Buying from the manufacturer

We have manufactured flocked flooring in Jiashan, China since 2003 and export worldwide, supplying distributors, fit-out contractors and importers. Buying from the line rather than through a distribution chain changes three things: the price you pay, the freedom you have over design, and whether you can put your own brand on the product. If the last one matters to you, see the distributor & partner page — we supply both under our own brand and as private-label OEM.

FAQ

What exactly is flocked flooring?

Flocked flooring is a textile floor made by standing millions of short nylon 6.6 fibres upright in a high-voltage electrostatic field and bonding them to a dimensionally stable, impervious backing. BON flocked flooring carries around 80 million fibres per square metre. The dense, short pile gives the warmth, quiet and slip resistance of a textile floor, while the sealed backing means it cleans like a resilient floor.

Is flocked flooring a carpet or a resilient floor?

Functionally it sits between the two. Underfoot it reads as textile — warm, quiet, soft. But because the backing is impervious and the pile is short and dense, spills stay on the surface and it can be wet-mopped, extraction-cleaned or steam-cleaned. That combination is why it gets specified in healthcare, aviation, hospitality and workplace projects where neither ordinary carpet nor a hard floor solves the brief on its own.

What test data should I ask for?

Ask for documentation on the points your tender actually references. BON flocked flooring is independently tested: reaction to fire Bfl-s1 to EN 13501-1 (SGS), slip resistance to EN 13893 with a dynamic coefficient of friction of 0.45 (SGS), impact sound reduction ΔLw 21 dB to ISO 10140-1 / 717-2 (SGS), formaldehyde not detected to GB 18587 (SGS), and antimicrobial activity tested to AATCC 174 (Intertek). Reports are issued for the specified product and batch.

Can I get a custom design printed into the floor?

Yes. Our digital print line takes your artwork — a pattern, a brand motif, wayfinding or a project-specific design — in any colour, with no tooling cost. This is what makes flocked flooring attractive for retail rollouts, hotel groups, corporate HQs and leisure venues that want the floor to be part of the design scheme rather than a catalogue choice.

What is the minimum order and lead time?

MOQ is from 1,000 m². Stock ranges typically ship in a few weeks depending on quantity; custom digital print runs around 4–8 weeks depending on design and volume. We have produced a single coordinated design at 100,000 m² for a national retail rollout, so volume is not a constraint. Pricing is quoted per order — tell us the quantity, format and design.
