Custom Printed & Logo Carpet Tiles: How Bespoke Flooring Is Actually Made
July 2026 · 8 min read · by BON Flocked Flooring
Most people asking for a custom floor have been told the same three things: it costs a fortune to set up, the minimum is enormous, and the detail will be crude. That is true of the traditional ways of making a bespoke carpet — and it is not true of digital print. This guide explains how a printed floor is actually produced, what it costs you in setup (nothing), what artwork to send, and why chains use it to roll one design across every site.
Three ways to get a design into a floor
| Method | How the design gets there | The limitation |
|---|---|---|
| Tufted / woven custom carpet | Design is built during manufacture (yarn, tufting, weaving) | High setup cost and large minimums; changes are expensive; long lead times — economic only at scale |
| Inlay, cut-in or logo mats | Shapes cut and joined, or a separate logo mat dropped in | Labour-intensive, limited detail, visible joins; a mat is a separate item, not the floor |
| Digital print on flocked flooring | Artwork printed directly into the dense nylon 6.6 surface | No tooling or screen cost, photographic detail, any colour — one-off designs are as economic as stock |
The economics are the whole story. Traditional custom carpet needs the design locked into the manufacturing process, so someone has to pay for setup and a big enough run to justify it. Digital print has no plate, no screen and no tooling — the machine simply prints a different file. A one-off design for a single hotel costs the same to produce as a stock pattern, which is why bespoke floors stopped being a luxury reserved for national rollouts.
What you can actually print
- Logos and brand marks — at reception, in-store, at a stand, at the scale you want.
- Brand patterns and colourways — matched to Pantone/RAL, repeated seamlessly across an area.
- Wayfinding and zoning — routes, zones and colour-coding printed into the floor rather than signposted above it.
- Full artwork — photographic or illustrative designs, including a designer’s own artwork for a feature space.
Because the surface is a dense flocked pile of around 80 million nylon 6.6 fibres per square metre, the print sits in a floor that behaves like a commercial floor: wet-cleanable on an impervious backing, hard-wearing under trolleys and chair castors. A printed floor that can’t survive traffic isn’t a floor — it’s a graphic.
How a custom order runs
1 · Send artwork & spec
Vector or high-res file, Pantone/RAL references, area in m², tile or roll format.
2 · Proof & approval
We return a digital proof or physical strike-off; you sign off colour and scale before production.
3 · Production
Digital print onto flocked backing — around 4–8 weeks depending on design and quantity.
4 · Repeatable reorders
The approved file is kept, so a later site or phase gets an identical floor.
MOQ is from 1,000 m² — the same as stock, because there is no setup to amortise. Pricing is quoted per order against quantity, format and design; tell us the area and send the artwork and we come back with an exact quote and schedule.
Where custom print earns its keep
Retail & telecom rollouts
One brand design laid identically in every store, batch after batch — the floor becomes part of the brand environment across a whole network.
Hotels & hospitality
A signature corridor or lobby pattern no other property has, in a floor that still wet-cleans and takes heavy traffic.
Corporate HQ & showrooms
Brand colours at reception, a logo where it is seen, wayfinding printed into the floor of a campus.
Education & leisure
Playful layouts, zoning graphics and colour-coded areas — printed, not pieced together.
The largest single custom design we have produced ran to 100,000 m² for a national retail rollout — one artwork, reproduced identically across an entire store network. See the project write-up for how those jobs are delivered.
For distributors and contractors
Custom print is also the easiest thing to sell that your competitors can’t match. When an architect asks for a floor in the client’s brand colours, or a hotel group wants a signature corridor, a catalogue supplier has to say no. Being able to say “send me the artwork” wins the specification — and it comes with no tooling cost to absorb. We supply it two ways: distribute the BON brand, or private-label the same floor under your own name. See the distributor & partner page.
FAQ
Can you print a company logo into carpet tiles?
Yes. Flocked flooring is digitally printed, so a logo, brand pattern, wayfinding graphic or a full artwork design is printed into the floor surface itself — not glued on or inlaid. Because it is digital, there is no tooling or screen cost, and a one-off design costs the same to produce as a stock pattern. Send vector artwork (or a high-resolution file) and we match colours and scale to your space.
Is there a minimum order for custom printed carpet tiles?
MOQ is from 1,000 m² for custom digital print — the same minimum as stock ranges, because digital printing has no plate or screen setup to amortise. That is what makes bespoke floors realistic for a single hotel, showroom or office rather than only for national rollouts.
What artwork do you need for a custom floor?
Ideally vector (AI, EPS, PDF) or a high-resolution raster file, plus your colour references (Pantone or RAL) and the area layout if the design needs to align across a space. We produce a strike-off or digital proof so you approve colour and scale before the full run. For repeat patterns we handle the tiling and match so seams are not visible in a laid floor.
How long does a custom printed floor take?
Custom digital print is typically around 4–8 weeks depending on the design and quantity, versus a few weeks for stock ranges. Design approval and proofing sit at the front of that timeline, so sending artwork early is the single biggest way to shorten it.
Can a chain roll out the same custom design across many sites?
Yes — this is one of the strongest uses of the product. Digital print reproduces the same design, batch after batch, so a retail chain, telecom brand or hotel group can lay an identical signature floor in every location. We have produced a single coordinated custom design at 100,000 m² scale for a national retail rollout.
