A nursery floor is spilled on, fallen on, crawled on and cleaned every single day, by people who are small, loud and touching everything. Most childcare settings end up compromising: vinyl or rubber that disinfects easily but is cold, hard and noisy, or carpet that is warm and quiet until the first accident soaks into the backing and the smell stays.
Flocked flooring removes that trade-off. The surface is a dense, short 100% nylon 6.6 pile — warm and forgiving for children who spend the day on the floor, and markedly quieter underfoot than a hard floor, with impact sound to the room below reduced by a tested ΔLw 21 dB. The backing is impervious, so juice, paint, sand and toilet accidents stay on the surface and the whole floor wet-mops, extraction- or steam-cleans on a daily cycle instead of absorbing what lands on it.
One boundary worth stating plainly: this is a floor covering, not safety surfacing. It is comfortable to fall on in the ordinary course of a room, but under climbing frames and other fall-height equipment you still need dedicated impact-attenuating matting to the relevant standard. We will say so rather than let a specification lean on the wrong product.

Spills and accidents, every day
Juice, paint, sand, toilet accidents. The impervious backing keeps liquid on the surface — wet-mop, extraction- or steam-clean it away instead of watching it soak into a backing and stay there as a stain and a smell.
Children spend the day on the floor
Crawling, sitting, circle time, naps. A short dense nylon 6.6 pile is warm and forgiving underfoot in a way that vinyl, rubber and tile are not.
Noise control that is real
A textile surface is much quieter to walk and play on than a hard floor, and impact sound carried to the room below is reduced by a tested ΔLw 21 dB (ISO 10140-1 / 717-2, SGS).
Hygiene you can evidence
Antimicrobial activity tested to AATCC 174 (Intertek), and formaldehyde not detected to GB 18587 (SGS) — the two questions parents and inspectors actually ask.
Slip resistance for running children
EN 13893 dynamic coefficient of friction 0.45, above the 0.30 low-slip threshold — and it holds up where a wet hard floor would not.

What is the best flooring for a daycare or nursery? +
The floor has to be three things at once — soft, genuinely washable and quiet — and most options give you only two. Vinyl and rubber clean easily but are cold, hard and loud. Carpet is warm and quiet but absorbs spills and accidents into its backing. Flocked flooring is a dense nylon 6.6 textile surface on an impervious backing, so it stays warm and quiet (ΔLw 21 dB impact-sound reduction) while liquids stay on top and the floor wet-mops, extraction- or steam-cleans like a resilient floor.
Is it safe if a child falls on it? +
It is warmer and more forgiving than vinyl, rubber or tile for the ordinary bumps of a nursery room, and slip resistance is tested to EN 13893 with a dynamic coefficient of friction of 0.45. But it is not impact-attenuating safety surfacing: under climbing frames and other fall-height equipment you still need dedicated safety matting certified to the relevant fall-height standard. We would rather say that than have it specified for the wrong job.
How do you clean it after an accident? +
Because the backing is impervious, nothing passes through to the subfloor. Spot-clean immediately, then wet-mop, extraction-clean or steam-clean as part of the normal cleaning cycle. Antimicrobial activity is tested to AATCC 174 (Intertek), which is relevant in rooms with nappy changing and shared floor play.
Is it low-emission enough for a room full of children? +
Formaldehyde is not detected in testing to GB 18587 (SGS), and reaction to fire is classified Bfl-s1 to EN 13501-1 (SGS). The dated report for your specified product and batch is issued with the order, which is usually what a licensing inspector wants to see.
Does it need underlay? +
No. Flocked flooring has its own backing and is bonded directly to the subfloor, so the material you quote is the finished floor. The subfloor must be level, dry and sound — levelling and moisture testing are the installer’s scope locally and sit outside an FOB supply price.
Can we print our own design into the floor? +
Yes. The surface is digitally printed, so any pattern, colour, character, learning graphic or wayfinding can go into the floor with no tooling cost, and a one-off design costs the same to produce as a stock one. MOQ is from 500 m².
